    1. Baseball Heritage Museum Road Trip event: East-West All-Star Game (all-day) @ Cleveland Public Library
      Sep 21

The East-West All-Star Game was the highlight of every Negro League season.  It was the Black version of the MLB All-Star Game.  Both began in the same year – 1933 – and the ‘East-West Game’ was played annually at Comiskey Park.  It brought tens of thousands of fans to Chicago and quickly became the most important Black sporting event in America.  Attendance grew to over 50,000 and it often outdrew its major league counterpart in the 1940s.  Many historians, players and fans believed that the success of the games was an important factor in the integration of baseball.

Please join us at the Cleveland Public Library for a presentation and discussion regarding the significance of this game.

    1. Baseball Heritage Museum Road Trip: The Legacy of Satchel Paige (all-day) @ Old Stone Church
      Oct 13

There are those who will argue that Satchel Paige was the greatest pitcher in baseball history.  Was he greater than Walter Johnson, Christy Mathewson, Bob Feller, or Sandy Koufax?  No one will ever know.  But no one doubts that he ranks in the top handful, even if he never got a chance to prove it in his prime against the best of competition.

This presentation will discuss the life and times of Leroy ‘Satchel’ Paige.  During 2013 we celebrate the 65th anniversary of his signing by the Cleveland Indians.
