The Return of Rocky Colavito- July 5th at the State Theater

July 5 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

With movie-star looks, boyish enthusiasm, a powerful bat and cannon-like arm, he was one of the most popular players ever to wear a Cleveland Indians uniform. He was also one of the team’s greatest home run hitters.Colavito played for the Indians from 1955 to 1959, and again from 1965 to 1967. After leading the American League in home runs in 1959, he was traded by General Manager Frank Lane to the Detroit Tigers for Harvey Kuenn, the league batting champion. The trade broke Indians’ fans hearts, and was later dubbed “the Curse of Colavito,” since the team descended into a 34-year period of futility. Colavito was traded in mid-1967, returning to the team twice in the 1970s as a coach and batting instructor. He had the third-most home runs by a right-handed American League hitter when he retired in 1968. Colavito was inducted into the Cleveland Indians Hall of Fame in 2006. We join the Italian Sons and Daughters of America as proud sponsors of this event with the support of the Cleveland Indians
