Eric Chalek admits that he was overjoyed last year when he heard that Major League Baseball was going to count statistics of ballplayers from the Negro Leagues. Chalek, 46, a man who has spent a lot of his free time poring over statistics from “black baseball,” felt the gesture was overdo. He’s got his own views about ballplayers from segregated baseball and why what they did matters.
