"The State of Women in Baseball”

Four years ago, I made a documentary about the challenges American women have faced trying to play, coach, or umpire in our national pastime. After nearly 100 years of discrimination and marginalization from the game, what’s the status of women in baseball today? We still don’t have women umpires, while the NBA and NFL have done so the past few years. There have been some advances, and more girls are making traditional boys’ high school baseball teams.

We’ll examine the changes, what it means, the challenges that persist, and the path forward.Two experts will join us to bring us up to date and share their thoughts: umpire Perry Barber and political scientist Jennifer Ring. Jennifer has not only written books on the subject, she experienced the challenging journey with her daughter, a gifted baseball player who played for the US National team.
