Event Details

April 17, 1960 is a day that lives in infamy for Cleveland sports fans. On that day, Rocky Colavito, the Cleveland Indians beloved slugging right fielder and home-run champion was traded for the Detroit Tigers’ batting champion. Losing Colavito — one of baseball’s brightest stars who at 26 was entering his prime as a ballplayer — was a crushing, unfathomable blow to a generation of Indians fans that led to a 34-year drought in which the Indians failed to challenge for a pennant. Mark Sommer, author of “Rocky Colavito: Cleveland’s Iconic Slugger” will discuss The Trade, how fans reacted, how it impacted Colavito, and answer your questions.
